Statement of contributions to diversity

<< TO BE UPDATED, PLEASE VISIT AGAIN >>

The Statement of contributions to diversity of Dr. Ricardo Rodriguez Jorge is updated to June 2023. The completed and signed version of my Statement of contributions to diversity is available upon request.

My experience working as a Ph.D. student at Czech Technical University in Prague has allowed me to serve as a Teaching Assistant for International Classes attended by students from The ERASMUS program. I was very motivated to teach the lab classes of the following subjects: Measurements in Engineering, and Computer Support for Studies.  This experience has provided me with a very close interaction among multicultural populations coming from different countries all over the world, such as Poland, USA, UK, France, North Korea, Germany, India, Spain, Russia, Belgium, among others

Because of the above mentioned, I truly believe that the diversity aspects from different cultures are very important to be respected thus to provide equal opportunities to people with whom we collaborate, students and colleagues alike. Accordingly, I have always accepted and respected cultural differences. This characteristic has always provided me with better results for the institution where I work since I am able to share ideas and collaborate effectively regardless of cultural diversity and beliefs among my colleagues and students. Therefore, I identify myself as a person who accepts, understands and respects diversity, such as spiritual, sexual orientation, gender identity, expression and political beliefs, I have always kept my personal beliefs independently of my work duties and responsibilities. In addition, I do not have any prejudice regarding cultural, religion or ethnic backgrounds from my colleagues at work. Personally, I am very grateful to have been granted the opportunity to be acquainted with all my colleagues, and students, and I think this situation has enriched our common interactions. Also, I must say that I consider equality as a very important aspect of my interaction with colleagues regardless of their gender, disability, national origin, veteran status, sex, genetic information and I am a person who really appreciates sharing experiences and collaboration with people even when there are some generation gaps because this makes my experience collaborating with them more pleasant and the laboral interaction is enriched. In addition, I also enjoy learning and contributing whenever there are some language or communication differences

I consider that I really can support the University’s diversity and inclusion goals, since I have had a lot of experience with teaching and sharing my knowledge and experiences with students and colleagues from all over the world. Additionally, I usually give talks, seminaries, workshops, and keynotes at different universities that have cultural diversity and I have been very impressed how some students have approached me with very valuables questions regarding my research, and this has allowed me also to understand their interest in science and engineering.

In the same way, I am pleased to highlight that I have been teaching, and mentoring students as well as providing academic gestion to all students that have been interested in my research topics, or by helping my advised students in such other generalities as the need of information about the Institution we were in or about issues related to their current studies. Because of that, I truly believe that I can properly prepare students for this global society and being an aid in the achievement of their goals in their professional careers.

Actually, I am certified in since 2016, in topics related to ensure gender equality, diversity and human rights. This has allowed me to avoid any type of discrimination during any laboral interaction. This is part of the pedagogic model certification that I have attended to allow me teaching in my previous job, providing me a concern of the gender perspective. In addition to this subject, my certification includes topics related to learning-teaching strategies, didactic planning, educative model of my current affiliation, development of teaching abilities, equality and discrimination, integral evaluation, computational technologies, and didactic materials.
